RefugeeLikeMe is live! We are a Knoxville, Tennessee-based nonprofit that focuses on one thing: Refugees have a PR problem. We want to fix that. We believe that nothing fights fear like a smiling face, so we’re interviewing refugees and helping them tell their stories in their own words.
RefugeeLikeMe was developed through the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce’s 30-week Young Entrepreneurs’ Academy course. The RefugeeLikeMe team developed a business plan and an investor panel pitch (if you’re curious, you can see both here), and received seven hundred dollars in seed funding. We were also selected as Knoxville’s representative to the Saunders Scholars Semifinalist competition in Rochester, New York. We’ve also launched an Indiegogo campaign that’s raised an additional fourteen hundred dollars.
